Coach Weir Heads To Teesside

Ryan Weir has joined Teesside Lions from City of Leeds and arrives on Teesside as one of the most highly rated young coaches in the UK.

Ryan, 25, and originally from Falkirk, is a high-level performance coach with recent roles as Prem Coach & Super Region Aspire Coach. He has developed under the tutorage of renowned coach Matt Newby and will bring a wealth of experience and ability to Teesside.

As a highly regarded player Weir represented Scotland at International junior level and attended York St John University, playing a pivotal role for the BUCS team prior to joining City of Leeds where he has shaped his calling in coaching and player development.

As an Aspire Super Region Coach, he has worked with some of the best coaches and players in the country.

In addition to his performance coaching ability, Ryan is also a very good community coach and Teesside Lions chairman James Thomson has signalled his arrival as another significant step in the forward projection of the club.

“Ryan is a great guy. He is a tireless worker, always assessing, tweaking and improving everything around him. He will undoubtedly enhance the product we deliver and raise standards at the club.

“With the recent Summer addition of Serge Bojev and now Ryan Weir we are building an All Star coaching team which is great news for players in our region.” Said James.

Ryan arrived this week and has enjoyed meeting players and staff at the club whilst also getting involved in some of the sessions.

Ryan was complimentary of his new club stating:

“First, I would like to place on record my gratitude to Matt Newby and Leeds. They have shaped me into the coach I am today, and I will always remember this. I will have fond memories of my experiences with the city, and players, parents and staff around the club.

“As my path finished with Leeds, the opportunity to work with Teesside was an appealing one. Every time I see a Teesside team, the players are significantly better than the previous game. They have built a great programme and I am excited about being involved in helping to continue this.”
